"Chavalit" carries on national reconciliation mission

BANGKOK, May 23 (TNA) - Former Thai prime minister General Chavalit Yongchaiyuth admitted on Monday that he has secretly carried on his own efforts for national reconciliation first voluntarily pushed forward by now caretaker deputy prime minister Major General Sanan Kajornprasart.
General Chavalit, who is a former chair of the Pheu Thai Party, suggested that cooperation and some sacrifices by all parties should lead to national reconciliation, insisting that he would like to maintain his neutrality by not returning to the Pheu Thai Party.
The former Thai premier said that he is ready to hold talks with all political parties to address the issue from all angles and hopes for the achievement of national reconciliation.
The former Pheu Thai Party chairman noted that there have been positive responses to his voluntary mission so far, and that his national reconciliation approach appears to be different and generally more practical than those introduced earlier by Major General Sanan. (TNA)
