GIZ supports development of biogas projects in Thailand
BANGKOK, May 23 (TNA) - Germany-based Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) is helping develop biogas projects in Thailand as another promising alternative energy source for local consumers and entrepreneurs.
Sirikul Prasitpienchai, a GIZ biogas expert, said on Monday that Thailand is a forefront biogas developer in Asia, generating some 113 megawatts of power from biogas so far or being equivalent to that generated by 378 kilotonnes of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).
Sirikul noted that GIZ is, therefore, helping improve biogas projects in Thailand to meet international standards in terms of purity, as well as proper production and maintenance to ensure safety, quality and efficiency of the locally-produced biogas, paving the way for Thailand to export biogas or invest in biogas projects in neighbouring countries.
Sirikul acknowledged that the GIZ support is mainly through training programmes and provisions of useful information for concerned Thai agencies and personnel, and that, apart from its use for power generating, biogas can also be used as an alternative fuel for vehicles. (TNA)
