NESDB predicts election in Thailand will put Bt20-30bn into circulation

BANGKOK, May 23 (TNA) - Secretary of the Office of the National Economic and Social Development Board Arkhom Termpittayapaisith, estimated the upcoming election in Thailand would bring an additional 20 to 30 billion baht in circulation, an increase from estimates that preceded the 2007 election.

Arkhom said the new government coming into power in July or August would need to keep prices of goods under control, particularly prices of agricultural products, while maintaining fairness for both consumers and producers.

At the same time, it would need to increase the minimum wage and facilitate trade and investments between Thailand and neighboring countries, particularly along the border.

Regarding the refinancing scheme for credit card debt, Arkhom said the debt would still exist, but would simply change hands from commercial banks to the state banks. However, the scheme may increase people’s purchasing power and may stimulate spending in the economy. (TNA)
