MOSCOW, May 23 (Itar-Tass) -- Russian President Dmitry Medvedev will
meet with scientists, who received the first grants from the Russian
government for making research at the Russian higher educational
establishments.
Some 33 specialists are invited for a meeting with the president.
Though most of them have Russian names, they represent institutes and
universities of the United States, Japan, Great Britain, Germany, Italy,
Switzerland and other countries.
The Russian leadership hopes that these grants will help reverse the
tendency for brain drain from the country and attract the best specialists
for work in Russia.
In 2010 the Ministry of Education and Science held the first contest,
for which leading scientists in partnership with Russian higher
educational establishments had made 570 bids. Some 335 Russian and 636
foreign specialists have conducted an expertise at the contest.
Some 40 contenders were announced the winners of the contest. In
2010-2012 they will receive 5.33 billion roubles from the federal budget
for their research and developments.
In the middle of April the Ministry of Education and Science announced
a second contest for the grants to scientists. The contest results will be
summed up before October 1.
