Thai police arrest 3 Iranians in drug smuggling case

BANGKOK, May 22 (TNA) - Thai narcotic suppression police on Sunday arrested three Iranian men in a drug smuggling case.

The three men, identified as Farshad Lashgari, Mehrad Ghorbani and Abbas Magtab, were charged with possessing 2.66 kilograms, 1.39kg and 1.21kg respectively of “ice” or crystal methamphetamine.

The three were arrested at Suvarnabhumi airport with the total amount of over 5.2kg of the ice worth over 15 million baht from Syria before making deliveries to customers in Thailand and nearby countries.

The men hid the narcotic in their black backpacks. They claimed that they did not know one another and were hired to traffic the illicit drug for the first time for a return of 2,300 US dollars each. Police believe they have the same mastermind.

There is the evidence showing that the Iranians often visited neighboring countries of Thailand. They are charged with smuggling the illicit drug and possessing it for sales and will be prosecuted. (TNA)
