“Yingluck” welcomes political parties to help set up coalition government

CHIANG MAI, May 21 (TNA) - The Pheu Thai Party’s No 1 party-list MP candidate “Yingluck Shinawatra” said on Saturday political parties are welcome to join the Pheu Thai Party in setting up a coalition government, adding she expects to win more than half the votes at the polls.
Ms Yingluck, the younger sister of exiled former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, has gained the prime spotlight as a contender for Thailand’s premiership in the upcoming election on July 3, 2011.
In her campaign trip to Thailand’s northern Chiang Mai province this week, Yingluck also reaffirmed her qualifications as a party-list MP candidate, quoting her successful application with the Election Commission of Thailand (EC).
Furthermore, Yingluck declined any involvement in her brother Thaksin’s asset concealment case, saying it was not relevant to her candidacy status, while allegations over her false testimony in court were under the jurisdiction of court authorities.
Yingluck insisted she was prepared to face political mudslinging, and will prove her party’s commitment to the public.
Meanwhile, the No 1 Pheu Thai party candidate has started campaigning party initiatives to the locals in Chiang Mai, saying if her party won the government’s seat, it will lead a national reconciliation movement through an undisclosed commission.
Regarding the political pardon for Thai politicians grounded by court orders, Yingluck said the matter will depend on each situation, but suggested the cases brought up after the 2006 coup be handled by an independent entity, in order to give equal rights to all Thais, and not solely for her elder brother Thaksin Shinawatra.
