Abhisit campaigns for votes with “First Day Action” policy

BANGKOK, May 21 (TNA) - Caretaker prime minister and Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva has hit the road to campaign for his premiership with a “First Day Action” policy, which he says, will be done on his first day as prime minister if he wins the upcoming election on July 3.
Abhisit, accompanied by key Democrat figures in Bangkok, toured the capital on Saturday for his voter campaign, starting at Wat Arun Rajwararam or "the Temple of Dawn", where he made pledges to push on effective policies, such as the 15-year free education scheme, pensioner allowance, and produce insurance scheme, as well as measures to curb high living costs and narcotics suppression.
The Democrat Party leader also mocked his arch-rival Pheu Thai Party, saying if Pheu Thai won the government’s seat, it will likely drop his produce insurance scheme and start handing out free computers to school kids instead. He added with doubt if a government under the Pheu Thai Party will only lead to another political setback, as it was likely to work on a political pardon for exiled former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra.
From the latest reports, a group of supporters of the red-clad United Front for Democracy Against Dictatorship (UDD) gathered in front of Arun Rajwararam Temple, to jeer Abhisit’s campaign. They also attacked Abhisit of ordering unlawful dispersal of their red shirt rallies last year, leading to innocent deaths.
No violence has been reported from the site however, which is being safeguarded by authorities. (TNA)
