Russia is actively preparing for APEC presidency - Nabiullina

NEW YORK, May 21 (Itar-Tass) -- Russia is actively preparing for its
presidency of the APEC forum and, therefore, it believes that the meeting
of APEC trade ministers In Big Sky, Montana was useful, because "many of
the issues discussed, initiatives launched and decisions made will be
considered and pursued by us in the year of our presidency of the forum,"
the head of the Russian delegation, Economic Development Minister Elvira
Nabiullina told Itar-Tass after the meeting on Friday.
The APEC leaders' meeting will be held in Vladivostok in the autumn of
2012.
Nabiullina said the Russian delegation took an active part not only in
the ministerial meetings, but also in the meetings of committees and
working groups, including those on trade and investment, economic and
technical cooperation, the working group on small business, and others.
"The two weeks in Big Sky saw a series of high-level meetings, aimed
at practical discussions on key issues of economic development and trade
in the APEC region, which the ministerial meeting completed," Nabiullina
said. "In Montana, there worked a Russian delegation comprising
representatives from a number of federal executive authorities and the
business community."
According to the Russian economic development minister, the United
States, which chairs the APEC in 2011, "filled the agenda of the forum
with very specific initiatives."
"On the one hand, this meaningful work allows to achieve real and
tangible results," she said. "But at the same time individual initiatives
of the U.S. delegation required serious consideration: meaningful
discussions revolved around the final document - the joint statement of
the ministers of trade, which eventually reflects the balanced positions
of participants."
At the meeting of trade ministers from 21 member-countries of APEC two
statements were adopted. They cover such issues as the development of the
multilateral trading system, the strengthening of regional economic
integration, cooperation in the standards of foreign trade regulation, as
well as barriers to the participation of small and medium-sized
enterprises to trade in the region.
The next APEC summit will be held on November 12-13, 2011 in Honolulu,
Hawaii.
