EC targets Thailand's voter turnout at over 70%
BANGKOK, May 20 (TNA) - The Election Commission of Thailand (EC) said on Friday that it expects a voter turnout of over 70 per cent in the forthcoming general election, set on July 3.
EC Chairman Apichart Sukhagganond organized a meeting with 400 provincial election commissioners and relevant authorities earlier in the day--at which he told them to ensure acceptable election and to explain advanced voting and voting outside native provinces to local people.
The EC chief also told the provincial election authorities to be neutral, be independent of political parties and local government officials and cope well with fierce competition, saying that his agency will launch public campaigns to minimize invalid ballots. (TNA)
