China intends to become new EBRD member

ASTANA, May 20 (Itar-Tass) - China is interested to become a member of
the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, which will be
advantageous both for the country and the bank, Chinese People's Bank
International Department head Zhang Tao said at the EBRD meeting in Astana
on Friday.
China has development experience. It will be useful for EBRD
countries. The experience and knowledge of EBRD countries would also
benefit China. Thus, it is mutually beneficial, he stressed.
The country is closely integrated into the world economy and is a
major partner of the European Union. So, its wish to join the EBRD is
connected with this, he explained.
China also has had system changes in its economy. If to compare China
of the present and 30 years ago, the great difference will be seen. The
country is firmly and definitely switching to market economy, the Chinese
bank official noted.
