Russian General Headquarters to outline missile shield position

MOSCOW, May 20 (Itar-Tass) -- The leadership of the General
Headquarters of the Russian armed forces will hold a scientific conference
on Friday to elaborate on the Russian position regarding the planned NATO missile shield in Europe.
"It is planned to assess the impact of the missile defense on the
Russian nuclear potential and strategic stability in the world, consider
the specifics of building the European missile defense with Russian
participation and without it, acquaint the participants and media
representatives with the capabilities of Russian Space Forces armaments
and military hardware for integration into the European missile defense,"
the defense ministry said adding missile armaments in the Middle and Near
East, as well as North Korea will be analyzed.
Deputy Chief-of-Staff of the General Headquarters Valery Gerasimov,
head of the Main Intelligence Department (GRU) Alexander Shlyakhturov, and
head of the Main Operative Department (GOU) Andrei Tretyak will address
the conference.
