Abhisit believes IMF chief's resignation does not affect Thailand

BANGKOK, May 19 (TNA) - Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva said the resignation of Dominique Strauss-Kahn from the post of Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) does not have any direct effect on Thailand.
Mr Abhisit said he has closely followed Strauss-Kahn’s case, but believes the case should be handled by Europe.
Meanwhile, Mr Abhisit added that believes the IMF will select a competent candidate to replace Strass-Kahn and that the new Managing Director will drive the Fund forward in a positive direction.
Currently, First Deputy Managing Director John Lipsky serves as an Acting Managing Director of the Fund.
Strauss-Kahn was charged earlier this week with attempting to rape a chambermaid in a New York City hotel, and has been remanded in custody by a New York Judge.
Strauss-Kahn, however, denied all charges. (TNA)
