STANDING COMMITTEE AND MINISTER ABOUT COPPER SMELTING INDUSTRY
Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, /MONTSAME/ A Minister of Mineral resources and energy, D.Zorigt has spoken to parliamentary Standing committee on economics about an implementation of parliament's resolution on creating a copper concentrate smelting and manufacturing industry.
The works is in research stage, the Minister quoted a working group that was established by him to draw a conclusion on situation and chances the copper concentrate smelting and manufacturing industry in Mongolia. Deposit/s will be researched after which this industry will be founded with a help of infrastructure and copper concentrate of the “Erdenet” mining corporation. In future, the second industry will be created either in Choir or Sainshand or Oyu tolgoi on a basis of copper concentrate of Oyu tolgoi and Tsagaansuvarga deposits equipped with pyrometallurgy technology.
Another working group on the same matter has been functioning established at the Premier's order from December 10 last year and led by a head of the National development and innovation committee. This group has prepared all proposals and is to present them at the cabinet soon.
As the two groups say, it would be the best way to choose “Ausmelt” and “Isasmelt” technologies in building cathode copper factory with a capacity of producing 90-130 thousand tons annually based on the “Erdenet”'s concentrate, and to choose a “Flashsmelt” technology of Finland “Outotec” company when building a cathode copper factory with a capacity of over 200 thousand ton annually within the Sainshand industrial complex. The last choice will be made after the technical-and-economic justification.
The Minister has said their organization together had run a meeting with MPs and authorities of the “Erdenet” corporation to introduce a new technology which reduces gas in sulphur dioxide and produces sulphur element.
The meeting has ended with a desicion to test in China the Russian and Holland technologies with a help of the “Erdenet”'s copper concentrate.
