Kazakhstan is priority region - LUKOIL CEO
ASTANA (Itar-Tass) - Head of the LUKOIL company Vagit
Alekperov said Kazakhstan is a priority region for his company. Alekperov
was speaking at the 24th plenary session of the Foreign Investors'
Council, which President Nursultan Nazarbayev chaired on Wednesday. The
Council addressed modernization and renewal of the republic's companies.
"Kazakh projects account for 40 percent of the company's foreign
reserves, and more than half of investments in foreign projects,"
Alekperov said, "in the near future, LUKOIL, along with the search for
opportunities to expand businesses, will focus on improving the
effectiveness of the projects under implementation. It is impossible to
accomplish without introducing modern technologies and perfecting the
organization of labour."
"LUKOIL has been operating in Kazakhstan for over five years, and has
accumulated a considerable experience in launching new oil & gas
extraction technologies and management systems, which enable it to achieve
a dramatic increase in production effectiveness.
"We have made all these technologies available to Kazakh service
companies. The skills and technologies these companies acquired enable
them to come onto international level," Alekperov said.
LUKOIL is a participant in the program to expand and set up new
companies to manufacture materials for the oil and gas sector, such as
polyvinyl chloride, a thermoplastic polymer, and products thereof.
Modern gas processing plants have already been built in the Kyzylorda
and Mangistau regions, and a similar construction project is being
implemented in the Aktyubinsk region. They not only provide for a high
level of utilization of casing head gas, but also supply cheap and
environmentally friendly fuel to regional consumers, including liquefied
gas. More than 500 million U.S. dollars have been invested in these
projects in the past few years.
The LUKOIL CEO said his company was working on training local
personnel at its centres: "a program has been prepared to familiarize the
teaching staff of Kazakhstan's technological colleges with Russian
technologies to train specialists for the oil and gas sector. In addition,
joint work to train specialists has begun together with the Nursultan
Nazarbayev University."
LUKOIL intends to continue to make all efforts toward improving the
competitiveness of Kazakh companies, as well as professional training and
advanced training of local personnel, Alekperov said.
