RF Presidential Library branch to open in Helsinki Wed

HELSINKI (Itar-Tass) - A branch of the Presidential Library
named after Boris Yeltsin opens at the Russian Center of Science and
Culture (RCSC) here on Wednesday.
RCSC Director Sergei Medvedev has told Itar-Tass, "The electronic
reading hall (of the library) in Helsinki will constitute a class-room
intended for six people. Presidential Library specialists have already
visited here to do all the necessary preparatory work".
The system of electronic reading halls of the Presidential Library
have already been tried and tested in a number of regions in Russia and
abroad. It provides access to the Library resources for all those who wish
to get them. In the process, visitors do not need to receive reader's
cards. They can use a one-off password to access the data base.
The Presidential Library collection includes more than 60,000 units of
storage, among them electronic copies of ancient manuscripts, maps, photo
albums, newspapers and monographs. The Library stocks enable readers to
get acquainted with the rarest historical documents and books, as well as
little-known archival materials which have not been hitherto within the
reach of the public at large. When making up its collection, the
Presidential Library used the stocks of the Russian State Historical
Archives, the State Archives of the Russian Federation, the Russian State
Library, the Russian National Library, and regional libraries of the
country.
