Int'l digital interactive artfest to be held in Yekaterinburg

YEKATERINBURG (Itar-Tass) - The second international festival
of digital interactive art, the PixelVision-2011, opens here on
Wednesday. Thirty multimedia designers from 15 countries are to display
their works, an official at the festival's organizing committee has told
Itar-Tass.
The organizing committee official said, "We want to acquaint visitors
with a new digital inter active art. As far as the festival's concept is
concerned, we decided to view pixel as a starting point in the creation of
visual images which are embodied on a digital panel, not on paper. This is
not graphics, pictorial or cinematic art but is something basically new.
"There are art designers who draw with paint. In this case paint is
used in a somewhat different format: a digital one. There have long been
professional multimedia designers abroad, who are prepared to show what
constitutes the charm of this art".
A special technology is to be demonstrated at the opening of the
festival: by means of it any person will be able to feel to be in the role
creator. An ordinary webcamera will shoot any movements within the angle
of vision of the lens. Then in an interactive mode a special video
projector from the camera will produce an image as a certain abstract
represnetation. Anything can emerge in result depending on what a person
on the other side is portraying -- from abstrct flashes to phantasy
designs.
Similar cultural events in Russia are also held in Moscow and St
Petersburg. The European audiences have been long familiar with this video
art.
