Cambodians closely monitoring Thailand's upcoming general election
BANGKOK, May 17 (TNA) - The chief of a Thai business association has acknowledged that Cambodian people are now closely monitoring Thailand’s forthcoming general election, set on July 3, as the Thai electoral outcome is anticipated to probably affect bilateral trade between Thailand and Cambodia.
The chairman of the border trade association in Thailand's eastern Chantaburi Province, Sombat Juengtrakul, said that he had received enquiries from trade partners in Cambodia about the country's upcoming general elections, ranging from political parties in contest to each party’s policy on external trade.
Sombat noted that the Cambodians have, particularly, paid attention to policies of Thailand's two main rival parties, the Democrat and Puea Thai Parties, as they are regarded as the most likely to win the majority in the Thai House of Representatives and to shape up the Kingdom's trade policies, which may affect the Thai-Cambodian trade and investment, as well as Cambodian migrant workers.
Each year, Thai-Cambodian border trade alone, accounts for tens of billion baht. In Chanthaburi, the total trade volume at two border passes along the Thai-Cambodian frontier reaches over 5 billion baht.(TNA)
