Hadramout to operate Shihr port soon

MUKALL, Sep.06 (Saba)- Economic sources said on Saturday that the
first phase of the project of Shihr port in Hadramout province will
be completed soon.

In a meeting headed by director general of Shihr district Ahmed
Salim Bankr, heads of fish associations affirmed the importance of
operating the port as soon as possible to provide its services to
more than 10000 fishermen along with the fishermen of other coastal
provinces.

"The first phase of the $12 million project consists of two piers
accommodating about 10000 boats", said the sources.

"Preparations are under way to begin the second phase of the
project, including service and marine installations at a cost $15
million financed by the Arab Fund for Economic and Social
Development and the Yemeni government".

The project is the largest fishing port in Yemen. It is expected
that it will contribute to provide advanced services to fishermen
and investors in the fish sector.
