Delegation of National Defense University, Washington visits National Disaster management Authority

Islamabad, May 16, 2011 (PPI): Following is the text of press note issued by National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA)

An eleven member delegation of National Defense University, Washington D.C. headed by Mr. Dan Mozena, faculty member of NDU, visited National Disaster management Authority (NDMA), Prime Minister’s Secretariat. Brig Sajid Naeem, Member Operations NDMA, briefed the delegation about various efforts of NDMA including the Early Recovery initiative in the flood hit areas.
Apprising the dignitaries about the recent floods, Brig Sajid Naeem, Member Operations NDMA, said that NDMA is the apex national disaster management body mandated to deal with complete spectrum of disaster management. He also elaborated upon the institutional framework of NDMA. The Member Operations highlighted that the situation in the flood affected areas has normalized due to concerted efforts of NDMA and all other stakeholders as repatriation of flood affected population is nearly complete, early recovery activities are in progress, infrastructure repairs are underway and the affectees have been disbursed billions through delegation_from_washington_unversity1Watan Cards to cater for their financial needs.
The Member Operations NDMA highly appreciated the assistance of international humanitarian fraternity in general and that of the United States in particular in this hour of need and expressed the hope that this cooperation will continue until the holistic rehabilitation of flood hit areas.
Mr. Dan Mozena, leader of the delegation, appreciated the efforts of NDMA in post flood relief and recovery operations for alleviating sufferings of flood affectees.
