"Yingluck Shinawatra" nominated as PM candidate of Puea Thai Party

BANGKOK, May 16 (TNA) - The Puea Thai Party voted unanimously on Monday afternoon to nominate "Yingluck Shinawatra", the youngest sister of exiled ex-premier Thaksin Shinawatra, as its candidate for the next Thai prime minister, contesting caretaker prime minister Abhisit Vejjajiva from the Democrat Party, in the country's forthcoming general election set on July 3.

The decision to place 43-year-old Yingluck at the top of the Puea Thai's party-list system was made at a meeting of the now opposition party's executive and former MPs, making her become the first woman to run for Thailand's premiership so far.

Born on June 21, 1967, Yingluck, now a leading Thai businesswoman, is the youngest of the nine Shinawatra siblings and was married to Anusorn Amornchat, a former executive of Thailand's renowned CP conglomerate. They have one child.

Yingluck thanked the Pheu Thai members for giving her a chance to prove herself, vowing that she is ready to fight according to the rules and will utilise her femininity to fully work for the Thai public and the nation. (TNA)
