GEREGE PLACED IN UNOV
Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, /MONTSAME/ A ceremony took place Sunday to place the Gerege in the Central Hall of the United Nations Office at Vienna, Austria (UNOV). Inherited from the era of Chingis Khaan, the Gerege has been presented from the government of Mongolia to the UN.
Opening the ceremony speeches have been given by Mr. Yury Fedotov, a Director-General of the UNOV, and by Mr. J.Enkhsaikhan, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Mongolia to the Republic of Austria and permanent representative of Mongolia to the UNOV.
Mr. Enkhsaikhan has mentioned that this year Mongolia will celebrate several historically vital dates such as the 2220th anniversary of the Founding of Mongolia's Statehood--Hun Empire, the 100th anniversary of the National Freedom Revolution that restored the independence, and the 50th anniversary of Mongolia's joining the United Nations (UN), and said,"Used for hundreds years, the Gerege is a pride of all the Mongolians. Being placed now it in the honorary hall of the UN, the Gerege will become the pride of all the UN members."
The Gerege--a tablet made of metals or wood that was used during Chingis Khaan's times and later--used to be granted to persons enabling them to have privileges such as representing his/her country to foreign countries.
