Transactions at “Money Expo 2011” exceeds Bt100bn mark

BANGKOK, May 16 (TNA) - Organisers of Thailand’s 11th Money Expo 2011, held at the Challenger Impact Arena Hall in Muang Thong Thani on the outskirts of Bangkok from May 12-15, has hailed the event’s success with a total transaction exceeding a 100-billion-baht mark.

Santi Wiriyarangsarit, chairman of the organizing committee for the four-day event, revealed on Monday that a total of some 119.21 billion baht-transaction, covering financial applications with banking institutions, securities and mutual fund management firms, gold traders/gold futures and insurance dealers, was recorded at the event, attended by more than 800,000 visitors.

The visitors’ top demand included mortgage applications worth about 78.99 billion baht, or some 66.27 per cent of the total transaction, followed by loans for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) worth about 23.03 billion baht, or about 19.32 per cent; while the purchase of non-performing assets (NPA), including houses and plots of land, totaled over 411.18 million baht.

Savings and investment services were also popular, with a total deposit during the four-day event amounting at 11.98 billion baht, or about 10.95 per cent of the total transaction; while other attractive loan types included credit cards with some 19,900 applications and a total credit amount of about 692.75 million baht, followed by personal loans, with 11,189 applicants, worth some 1.13 billion baht; while auto leasing deals drew 1,189 applicants worth about 336.51 million baht.

Investment applications for mutual funds and government bonds, on the other hand, reached some one billion baht and 491.14 million baht respectively; while an estimated 40 million baht came from purchases of gold bars and gold ornaments. (TNA)
