CIS MPs to meet in St Pete for Interparliamentary Assembly session
ST PETERSBURG, May 16 (Itar-Tass) - Parliamentarians from CIS
member-states will gather in St. Petersburg's conference venue at the
Taurida Palace for the 36th plenary session of the CIS Interparliamentary
Assembly to discuss bilateral trade, environment and international
election observation missions.
The session will be chaired by the head of the CIS Interparliamentary
Assembly Council, Russian Federation Council speaker Sergei Mironov.
Parliamentarians plan to discuss model laws on legal support for
upgrading the education systems in CIS member-states, on strategic
environmental assessment, on the basics of the Internet regulation and on
special protective, anti-dumping and compensatory measures for the import
of goods, the Interparliamentary Assembly's press service told Itar-Tass.
They will also draft new recommendations for making social policy in
the CIS, carrying out election observation missions and providing legal
support for motor vehicles utilization.
They also plan to draft an address to the world community on behalf of
the heads of the CIS states on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the
start of World War II.
The international scientific conference devoted to the 65th
anniversary of the Nuremberg trials of Nazi war criminals and the fourth
Nevsky international ecological congress are timed to coincide with the
session. The congress will bring together around 1,500 delegates from 46
countries.
Mironov underlined that following the 25th anniversary of the
Chernobyl nuclear disaster the congress will pay special attention to
higher security at nuclear power facilities.
