Booming tourism expected after the completion of the fourth bridge across the Mekong River

BANGKOK, May 15 (TNA) – Thai authorities in Wiang Kaen district of Chiang Rai which is the northernmost province of Thailand lead tour operators in a trip to the Mekong River to explore a tourist route that can be promoted among travelers from Thailand, Laos and southern China after the fourth bridge across the Mekong River is completed to facilitate tourism in the three countries.

Prasert Jittapleecheep, Wiang Kaen District Chief Officer, led tour operators from Chiang Kong district to explore tourist attractions along the Mekong River to prepare for booming tourism expected after the completion of the fourth Thai-Lao friendship bridge that will cross the Mekong river and link Chiang Kong district of Chiang Rai province and Huay Xai town of Bo Kaew province of Laos. The bridge will be completed next year.

Authorities of Wiang Kaen district and tour operators from Chiang Kong district are developing tour programs on the route along the Mekong River from Chiang Kong district to Wiang Kaen district via the new bridge construction site. The end of the route is Kaeng Pha Dai rapids that is also the end of the Mekong river’s section in northern Thailand. From that point the river enters Laos.

The section of the Mekong River boasts magnificent views, especially those of sand beaches, rocks, islets in the middle of the river as well as the lifestyles of people living on both banks. Many locations have long histories that are the evidence of good ties between Thai and Lao people.

The Wiang Kaen District Chief said if the Thai-Lao Bridge and the R3-A route that passes through Laos and reaches southern China are completed, they will boost tourism in Chiang Kong and Wiang Kaen districts. He expects both districts can jointly promote their tourist destinations.
