Thai Buddhists cerebrate Visakha Bucha Day
BANGKOK, May 15 (TNA) - Thai Buddhists in several provinces started cerebrating Visakha Bucha Day which this year falls on May 17.
In Bangkok, Bangkok governor M.R. Sukhumbhand Parbatra and Khunying Sudarat Keyuraphan, chair of the Thai Phueng Thai Foundation, organized a merit-making activity for 84 Buddhist monks and a fund-raising activity to collect money for the renovation of Lumpini, the birthplace of Lord Buddha in Nepal. They also joined a prayer to wish for the protection of Thailand and Thai people.
In Chiang Mai province, local people and revered monks of the North attended a ceremony to place Buddha relics on the rooftop of a museum of revered monks' relics at Wat Santitham temple. In Lamphun province, many local people and tourists paid homage to and bathed the main pagoda at Wat Phra That Haripunchai temple. The the temple organizes an annual bathing ceremony of the pagoda from May 11 to 17.
In Nakhon Phanom province, Thai and Lao tourists attended a ceremony to pay homage to the Phra That Phanom pagoda. Tourism authorities of Nakhon Phanom organize an activity for visitors to give robes to the pagodas of individuals’ birthdays for visitors’ good luck. (TNA)
