China mine blast kills 10
Beijing, Sept 5 (PTI) At least ten miners were killed and eight missing after a coal mine gas blast Friday in south-west China's Sichuan Province.
The blast took place when about 44 miners were working underground the mine of Jinhe Coal Mining Co, Ltd in Jiuqing Town, Xingwen County, the Sichuan Provincial Work Safety Administration said.
Rescuers are still searching for the missing miners. Only 26 miners came out of the pit after the blast, official Xinhua news agency reported.
Sichuan's vice governor Li Chenyun and other officials
have rushed to the spot and are coordinating rescue and relief
operations.
27 people were killed Thursday and six were injured after a mine gas explosion in north-eastern Liaoning Province.
About 3,800 people died in China coal mines last year
according to official sources, although independent monitors
claim the real figure was likely to be far higher as many
accidents were covered up. China has a very poor record of
safety in its mines. PTI SAZ
