CIS Assembly Council to sum up results of election monitoring
St PETERSBURG, May 15 (Itar-Tass) - Council of the Inter-Parliamentary
Assembly of the Commonwealth of Independent States chaired by Sergei
Mironov, the speaker of the upper house of Russian parliament, meets in
session here Sunday to discuss the results of missions to observe
elections in Azerbaijan, Moldova, Belarus, and Kazakhstan, the Assembly's
press service.
Speakers of parliaments of CIS member-nations are also expected to
have a meeting in the Tauride Palace where they will analyze the results
of conferences devoted to Kazakhstan's term chairmanship in the
Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe /OSCE/ and the 105
years of parliamentariniasm in Russia and the congress on 'Safety on the
Roads in the Name of Life'.
Also, they will introduce adjustments in the plans of the
Inter-Parliamentary Assembly's activity for 2011 and for the modeling of
lawmaking processes over the period of 2011 through 2015.
Major attention will be given to preparing the events timed for the
36th plenary session of the assembly that opens in the Tauride Palace
Monday.
The list of the events includes an international workshop on the 65th
anniversary of the Nuremberg Trials and the 4th Neva International
Ecological Congress.
Participants in the meeting will also consider the prospects for
instituting the Badges of Honor of the Assembly in the spheres of culture,
information, tourism and sports.
Also Sunday, standing committees of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly
will gather here to discuss the concept of the CIS common migration space
and the prospects for liberalizing the travel visa issuance regulations
with the European Union.
An official at the Assembly's press service told Itar-Tass three
standing committees - the ones supervising political problems and
international cooperation, social policies and human rights, as well as
agrarian policies, natural resources and ecology - will have sessions
Committee on political issues is expected to consider a model draft
law on inadmissibility of steps towards rehabilitating Nazism and will
discuss an appeal to grant observer status to the Parliamentary Assembly
of Turkic-Speaking Countries and the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of
Orthodox Christian Nations.
The committee on social policies and human rights will concentrate its
meeting on the concept of a common migration space in the CIS and the
model law on youth policies in the member-states.
Committee members will hear a report on drafting an agreement on
cooperation between the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly and the
International Organization for Migration.
The standing committee on the agrarian policies, natural resources and
ecology plans finalizing a new version of the Convention on Ecological
Security in the CIS and discussing a draft model law on prevention of
large-scale accidents linked to the discharges of hazardous substances.
The participants will also examine the readiness for the 4th Neva
International Ecological Congress opening in St Petersburg later this week.
