Shaways: the Iraqi economy needs radical reform

Baghdad (NINA) - Deputy Prime Minister, Rowsch Nouri Shaways, said "the Iraqi economy needs radical reform,” and that the content of this reform, is based on how to balance between the roles of economic sectors; public, private and mixed."

He said, in a speech delivered on his behalf, at a seminar (Iraq’s conditions as seen by the donors), organized by the advisers in the General Secretariat of the Cabinet today, "the comprehensive crisis of the Iraqi economy and deep imbalances created by the wars and the blockade and those that were produced by the period after 2003 and the collapse of the State institutions, requires, among other things, initiating economic reforms aimed at expanding the productive base of the economy, changing its mono- structure and update it, ensuring a more equitable distribution of income and wealth, and human resource development."

He declared that "Iraq seeks to integrate with the global economy and take advantage of other laws, like, the law of consumer protection, antitrust law, and customs tariff law.


Shaways continued saying "the law of economic reform, which is also in parliament now for endorsement, has the principles of restorative for all axes and sectors of economic reform that are committed by those sectoral legislations pertaining to reform away from the chaos in the area of ​​economic transition and the transitional phase and includes an institution dedicated to economic reform."
