Radiation within safe levels in FE Russia, monitoring continues

KHABAROVSK, May 14 (Itar-Tass) -- Radiation is within natural levels
in the Far East. Gamma-radiation ranges between 10 and 17 microroentgens
and hour, with the norm of 30 microroentgens, the regional EMERCOM centre
reports.
The maximum level of 17 is reported in the Khabarovsk Territory and 16
in the Magadan and Amur regions.
According to specialists of the Dalhydromet Far Eastern meteorological
centre, the Rospotrebnadzor public health control and other services
monitoring the situation 24 hours a day, there is no danger for Far
Eastern residents' health and no threat of radiation contamination in
connection with the nuclear power plant accidents in Japan.
In the region, 630 stationary and mobile posts are monitoring the
situation. Specialists of the Emergencies Ministry and other services take
measurements in the atmosphere at various altitudes. Research vessels
monitor the Pacific water and air environment situation.
Following the decision of the federal hydro-meteorological service
Roshydromet, the research vessel Pavel Gordiyenko is on an expedition to
assess water and air radiation contamination in the Sea of Japan and the
Kuriles-Kamchatka region. The expedition has gone more than 2,700 miles.
The measurements taken on the route have not detected radiation higher
than the safe levels.
The sailing vessel Nadezhda continues monitoring in Russia's waters in
the Sea of Japan. Experts aboard have not reported exceeding levels either.
