Dead fowls in Thai North free of avian flu: Authority

LAMPANG, May 14 (TNA) - Thorough lab tests on fowl carcasses found in Jae-hom District of Thailand’s northern Lampang Province early this month have confirmed that the province remains free from any outbreak of the deadly avian influenza (AI).
Veterinarian Methanon Mulpho at Thailand's Northern Veterinary Research and Development Centre in Lampang's Hang Chat District, said on Saturday the official laboratory tests had come out that the deaths of hundreds of game roosters in Jae-hom were actually caused by gastrointestinal infections due to the warmer weather, not from bird flu as earlier feared.
Separately, Permsak Wittayakorn, Lampang's chief livestock official, insisted that so far checks across all 13 districts in the province, where there are a total of some 700,000 fowls, most of which are chickens, had found no bird flu cases.
The provincial chief livestock official said that his office is issuing an official notice to inform the public that all areas in Lampang have remained free from the avian flu. (TNA)
