“Buddhamonthon” stages Visaka Pucha week

BANGKOK, May 14 (TNA) - Thailand’s National Office of Buddhism, in cooperation with other public and private entities, is staging a spiritual event at “Buddhamonthon”, the country’s Buddhism avenue in the Bangkok's suburban Nakhon Pathom Province on the occasion of this year's Visakha Pucha Day, which falls on May 17.
The organizers of the four-day event, starting from Saturday, have expressed their intention to continue presenting to the public the significance of Visakha Pucha, as officially recognised by the United Nations.
Highlights of this year’s event, from May 14-17, include a special sermon delivered by Thailand’s highly-revered monk Somdej Phra Maha Rajmangalajarn, candle-lit prayer sessions, public meditation classes and displays of ancient Buddhist scriptures and relics--aimed to promote Buddhism values among visiting people from all walks of life.
