Skills contest for PWDs organised in Thailand

BANGKOK, May 14 (TNA) - Persons with disabilities (PWD) are displaying their skills at Thailand's annual skills competition for the disabled.

Her Royal Highness Princess Soamsawali inaugurated the annual contest at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center in Bangkok on Friday.

The Thai Ministry of Labour's Department of Skill Development organized the national competition for the fifth-straight year, aimed to improve skills and capabilities of disabled workers in the country.

The competition is divided into 21 skill categories, such as knitting, computer programming, flower arranging and ceramics. After the two-day contest, winners will be each rewarded a 20,000-baht cash prize and presented certificates. Winners in some categories will also represent Thailand in an international labour skills competition for PWDs later this year.

Meanwhile, Permanent Secretary for Labour Somkiart Chayasriwong also urged disabled people in Thailand to register with his ministry's Department of Skill Development to maintain their rights for free skills trainings. (TNA)
