Ukraine expelling 2 Czech diplomats
KIEV, May 14 (Itar-Tass) - Ukraine is expelling two Czech diplomats
for espionage, the Foreign Ministry reported.
On May 13, the Foreign Ministry of Ukraine summoned Charge d'Affaires
of the Czech Republic in Ukraine Vitezslav Pivonka, to pass him a note
stating that two employees of the military attache's office in Kiev are
declared persona non-grata for actions incompatible with the provisions of
the Vienna convention on diplomatic relations.
The Ministry expressed a firm protest to the head of the Czech
diplomatic mission over the use of diplomatic status for gathering
information which is state secret in Ukraine. Such actions by
representatives of any state are unacceptable to Ukraine.
Of serious concern is the fact that diplomats of the Czech Republic, a
friendly and partner country for Ukraine, engaged in illegal activities.
At the same time, Kiev noted that developing friendly and mutually
advantageous relations with the Czech Republic was an important priority
for Ukraine. "We're hoping that such incidents will not overshadow our
relations in the future," the Ukrainian foreign ministry said.
