Voronzeh region resident jailed for 6 months for hate attack

VORONEZH, May 14 (Itar-Tass) - The Sovetsky district court, Voronezh
region, sentenced a resident to six months in jail for hate attack of a
foreigner, senior aide to the regional prosecutor Mikhail Usov told
Itar-Tass.
The inquest ascertained that Vladimir Kalmykov, 47, a resident of the
village of Anna, saw a 20-year-old Vietnamese student at a fair in March
and attacked him on sight, hitting him several times on the head. He
accompanied the assault with expletives against the Vietnamese, demanding
that they leave the Russian soil.
The court agreed with the prosecutor's qualification of the
defendant's action. Kalmykov was found guilty of battery motivated by
ethnic or religious hate.
He was given a real jail term because of outstanding conviction for
previous crime.
Several dozen people in Voronezh have been convicted for crimes
against foreigners. The criminals who committed brutal murders of four
foreigners on different dates, are still serving their sentences.
