'People only support adherents to principle of velayat-e faqih'

TEHRAN, May 14 (MNA) – The leader of this week’s Friday prayers in Tehran has said that the Iranian people only support those officials and politicians who adhere to the principle of velayat-e faqih (rule of the supreme jurisprudent).

“People will support anyone who moves in this path and sacrifice themselves for him, but anyone who deviates from the right path will lose the popular support,” Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati told worshippers at the campus of Tehran University.

Pointing to the current political situation in the country, he said that the “deviant current” will not be able to take any action which goes against the will of the Supreme Leader.

Ayatollah Jannati also said that most of the deviant current’s activities, including distributing money among people, are preparations for the next elections.

This group also has suspicious connections with foreigners and has given the Unites States the green light, he said.

“Today it is not in the Islamic system’s best interest to deal with them, but one day people and the Islamic system will deal with this group,” he added.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Jannati said that internal dissensions will not harm the country, emphasizing the Islamic system will never reach a deadlock.
