CONFERENCE ON CLASSIFICATION AND STATISTICS ON DISABLED HELD
Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, /MONTSAME/ In a scope of the "Sufficient environment-2011"campaign aimed at ensuring rights of the disabled, a consultation themed "Classification, statistics and policy" was held Thursday in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The main purposes of the consultation were to tackle any challenges in classification and statistics on the disabled, and to consult next steps to find out solutions.
The information about a number of the disabled and statistics about them differs, for example, a report given to the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) says Mongolia has 79 thousand disabled, whereas an unofficial statistic says 120 thousand. The official statistical report says 6,700 disabled children live in Mongolia, but a report of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science--35,899.
The consultation was co-organized by the Ministry of Justice and Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Social Welfare and Labor, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Statistics Committee, the UNHRC's project on justice efficiency and human rights, and NGOs for the disabled.
