Shot politician insists he is ready to run in Thailand’s next election

BANGKOK, May 12 (TNA) - Pracha Prasopdee, a former Pheu Thai Party MP for Samut Prakan, told a press conference at Praram 9 Hospital in Bangkok on Thursday that he would run in the next election.
In his first press conference since being shot, Mr Pracha said he was recovering. He showed the bullet wound on his head which had come from an M16 and said shrapnel from the bullet had sunk into his back. Doctors are still deciding whether or not to remove the pieces from his body.
Mr Pracha did not name who he believed to be the mastermind of the attack. He sent his evidence to the police and senior figures of the Pheu Thai Party whom he trusted and insisted that the incident has not discouraged him from running in the next election. He did, however, admit that it would be difficult for him to campaign for votes in the field.
During his press conference, Mr Pracha broke into tears and remained silent for a minute. He then explained that he was shaken by the attack and by the remarks of the Deputy Prime Minister and Democrat Party secretary-general Suthep Thaugsuban that he should not use the incident to woo voters’ support.
Police of the Phra Pradaeng station have checked recordings from over 20 surveillance cameras positioned along Mr Pracha’s route from a temple in Phra Pradaeng area to the place where he was shot. They are suspecting the involvement of a pick-up truck but cannot confirm if it had carried a gunman because the shooting happened at night. (TNA)
