Thailand's consumer confidence index drops month-on-month three times consecutively

BANGKOK, May 12 (TNA) - Thailand's overall consumer confidence index (CCI) fell to 70.5 level last month, from 71 in March, showing its third consecutive month drop since February 2011.

Bangkok-based University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce's Economic and Business Forecasting Centre reported on Thursday the results from a recent survey, which showed that last month's CCI for the country's current economic conditions also fell from 63.7 in March to 62.4, its lowest level in five months.

The finding showed that Thailand's CCI for overall job opportunities also dropped for three straight months to 71.1 last month, from 71.6 in March; while CCI for job opportunities in April alone fell for the second consecutive month to 64.4, from 65.6 in March. However, the CCI for job opportunities over the next six months rose in April for the first time to 77.8, following two consecutive monthly drops.

The latest survey found that CCI for the Thai economy over the next six months improved slightly to 78.7 last month, from 78.4 in March, and that local consumers identified remaining risk factors in the Thai and global economies, including unstable political developments and rising costs of living.
