Rimanic named Iran handball coach

TEHRAN, May 11 (MNA) -- Ivica Rimanic was appointed as Iran handball coach on a one-year contract on Wednesday.

Rimanic will travel to Shahrekord this weekend to see Shahrekord – Mes of Kerman game in the Iran handball league.

The 55 year-old Croat has worked in Norway for 16 years and coached women’s clubs (Byasen and Nordstrand) and men’s clubs (Stavanger and Fyllingen) in the country.

Rimanic has also spent two years in Kuwait with the club team Al Salmiya; one season in Saudi Arabia and another two seasons in Japan with the men’s national team.

Rimanic is Iran’s fourth foreign handball coach. Russians Yury Klimov and Yuri Kidyaev as well as Slovenian Borut Macek have previously led Iran handball team.

Iran handball team is gearing up for 2012 Olympic Games qualifiers and Asian Men's Handball Championship.
