Rains and flash floods hit Surat Thani

SURAT THANI, May 11 (TNA) - Heavy rains have sparked flash floods in southern Thailand’s Surat Thani province, with updated reports confirming damage at a local bridge.

People in Ban Pak Hai community of Kanjanadit district have made efforts on Wednesday to temporarily restore the crossing with boulders and earth, provided by the 2nd Army Area Command.

Boonsong Chanpakdee, a local community head, led the team for the patch work over Khlong Kra Dae canal, after uphill floodwater had washed away much of its road surface, bringing local traffic to a halt.

Meanwhile, a great deal of local maintenance had reportedly been underway on the flimsy crossing, where proper construction is pending the provision of an official budget. (TNA)
