Public prosecutors to decide on June 9 whether to indict 15 PAD leaders

BANGKOK, May 10 (TNA) - Police from Thailand’s Crime Suppression Division (CSD) have handed over 40,000 pages of investigative reports to public prosecutors, charging 15 leaders of the People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD) with terrorism and 114 other PAD supporters who seized Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang airports in 2008.

Wichean Thanompichai, an executive director for criminal litigation at the Office of the Attorney-General, received the reports in Bangkok at 11am local time Tuesday.

Mr Wichean said that Mr Kayasit Pisawongprakan, director-general of the Department of Criminal Litigation, has formed a panel to consider the alleged charges, covering from the start of the PAD's protests to their seizure of Government House, the parliament building, the National Broadcasting Services of Thailand and Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang airports. Public prosecutors said any indictment will be decided on June 9.

Meanwhile, over 80 PAD leaders and supporters have reported to the police, including Maj Gen Chamlong Srimuang, Mr Somsak Kosaisuk and Mr Saranyu Wongkrachang, while PAD co-leader Sondhi Limthongkul and Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya postponed their arrivals.

Police charges on the PAD have included terrorism, illegal assembly, coercion, provoking unrest, halting aviation services and violating the executive decree on public administration in emergency situations. (TNA)
