Former Thai deputy commerce minister passes away

BANGKOK, May 10 (TNA) - Thailand's former deputy commerce minister Pairoj Suwanchawee has reportedly passed away peacefully from lymphoma at the age of 62.
Pinij Jarusombat, a former deputy prime minister of the country, told reporters that more information on the late deputy commerce minister will be conveyed at a press conference at the head office of the Chart Pattana-Puea Phandin Party in Bangkok at 5pm local time Tuesday.
When acting Second Lieutenant, Pairoj was appointed as deputy commerce minister for a previous Thai administration under prime minister Banharn Silpa-archa. He was later banned from politics for five years after the dissolution of the now-defunct Thai Rak Thai Party of convicted ex-premier Thaksin Shinawatra by a court.
Acting Second Lieutenant Pairoj, however, played vital roles behind the Puea Phandin Party, including the formation of the "three Ps" group comprising he himself, former deputy premier Pinij and Preecha Laohapongchana, a Thai former deputy commerce, deputy industry and deputy foreign minister.
The late deputy commerce minister's wife, Ranongrak Suwanchawee, was also a Thai former information and communication technology minister (ICT) and a Thai former finance minister. (TNA)
