Iran's Intl. Student Theater Festival announces programs
TEHRAN, May 10 (MNA) -- Iran’s 13th International Student Theater Festival will be held from May 14 to 21 at Tehran’s theaters.
A total of 75 Iranian theater troupes and 700 participants will compete in different sections of the festival, The Deputy Science Minister for Cultural Affairs Jalil Dara mentioned during a press conference at the City Theater on Monday.
“The participation of foreign theater troupes was ‘formal’ in past years but we have selected three foreign troupes for competition and seven troupes will hold workshops during the festival,” he added.
However, he did not specifically name the theater troupes. He said that even the participation of five or six foreign troupes would introduce Iranian participants to foreign performances.
After that, the secretary of the festival Seyyed Javad Roshan read a short report on the current edition of the festival.
He said that about 1100 works were submitted to ten different sections of the festival, which is about the same as previous editions.
Nine directors staged their plays in their hometowns during past year which is an auspicious event, he added.
Some publishers including Nila, Afraz, Qaterh and Sureh-Mehr will also attend a book fair on the sidelines of the exhibition.
Saeid Kashan-Fallah, Fereydun Aliyari, Mohammad-Baqer Qahremani, Hamidreza Afshar and Rahmat Amini will judge the plays staged by theatrical students.
The plays staged by the non-theatrical students will be judged by Shahram Zargar, Hossein Farrokhi and Hamed Saqaiean.
Majid Sarsangi, Farzan Sojudi and Yadollah Aqa-Abbasi are the jury members of the research section. Akbar Radi Playwright Award will be judged by Mohammad Charmshir, Faares Baqeri and Nader Borhani Marand.
He named Afraz and Sureh-Mehr Publications, Bank Mellat and Tehran Municipality as the sponsors of the event.
