Iran plans to establish Asian cinematic organization
TEHRAN, May 10 (MNA) -- Iran plans to establish an Asian cinematic organization to produce joint productions, said Alireza Sajjadpur at the first Senior Officials Meeting on Cultural Cooperation of the Asian Cooperation Dialogue (ACD) here on Monday.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the meeting, Culture Ministry Supervision and Evaluation Office (SEO) Director Sajjadpur said that ACD members plan to collaborate in establishing the organization, and Iran will be the first country to produce a movie.
“Iran will be taking charge of the primary expenses but other members will join later,” he added.
The two-day meeting was inaugurated here on Monday in the presence of the Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Mohammad Hosseini and cultural representatives from Asian countries.
Hosseini made a short speech at the opening ceremony and said that promoting a spirit of solidarity will provide the basis for regional cooperation, leading to the establishment of an Asian union in the future.
He added that Iran is well aware of the effective role of cultural cooperation and will make every attempt to develop cultural cooperation.
“Asian countries enjoy great potential in art, culture and in their economies, and if ACD members are able to unite, they could play a more serious role in convincing the arrogant world powers to yield to their demands.
“Asian countries must learn to decide on their own fate, not permitting the West to interfere. Some analysts believe the new millennium belongs to Asia and the Asian countries will play a major role in political and international changes in the region,” he remarked.
Director of the meeting Javad Shamaqdari next talked about the cultural commonalities of the regional countries and said, “Western culture may have ready access to cinema, but it portrays a distorted image of the culture of Asian countries.
“Asian countries need to unite to produce joint productions in order to correctly introduce their own culture and civilization,” he said.
“Morality and respect towards the family are two elements ignored in the Western cinema while they are of great concern in Asian countries,” he noted, adding that Iran is ready to exchange cultural information with regional countries such as India, Japan, and South Korea.
Thirty Asian countries plus Russia are participating in the event; among them are China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Japan, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Kuwait.
Several organizations are collaborating in organizing the event; among them are the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Iranian Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts Organization (CHTHO), the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB), and the Islamic Ideology Dissemination Organization (IIDO).
