Iranian, UAE foreign ministers meet in Abu Dhabi

TEHRAN, May 10 (MNA) -- Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi held talks with UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan in Abu Dhabi late on Sunday.

During the meeting, Salehi said the fact that the volume of trade between Iran and the UAE is $25 billion indicates that Iran has put interaction with the UAE on its foreign policy agenda.

He also stated that the two countries should take steps to expand bilateral relations.

Commenting on the developments taking place in Bahrain, Salehi expressed hope that the crisis in the Persian Gulf will be defused soon through the withdrawal of foreign forces from the country and the fulfillment of public demands.

The UAE foreign minister stated that his country attaches high significance to relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran.

He also called for increased cooperation between Tehran and Abu Dhabi in various areas, particularly in the area of trade.

Elsewhere in his remarks, he briefed Salehi on Abu Dhabi’s position toward the developments in Bahrain and expressed hope that the situation in the country would be resolved soon.
