Iran's administration approves merger of 8 ministries

TEHRAN, May 10 (MNA) – The cabinet has approved the merger of eight ministries, decreasing them to four ministries.

According to a report published on the government’s website on Monday, the cabinet approved the merger of the Transport Ministry with the Housing Ministry, Industries and Mining Ministry with the Commerce Ministry, the Energy Ministry with the Oil Ministry, and the Welfare Ministry with the Labor Ministry.

The cabinet also decided that four working groups would be set up to make preparations for the merger of the ministries.

After the merger of the ministries, Welfare Minister Sadeq Mahsouli, Industries Minister Ali Akbar Mehrabian, and Oil Minister Massoud Mir-Kazemi should leave the office.

The lawmakers have announced that the parliament should approve the merger of ministries, but the administration believes that its decision does not need the parliament’s approval.
