Radiation background normal on Sakhalin, Kurils-EMERCOM
VLADIVOSTOK, May 10 (Itar-Tass) - Background radiation on the Sakhalin
and Kuril Islands on Tuesday at 09:00, local time (02:00 MSK) was within
the norm, ranging from 5 to 16 micro-roentgens per hour.
Intensified monitoring of the radiation situation in connection with
the accident at the Fukushima-1 Japanese nuclear plant is conducted by 99
radiation control posts, including helicopters of the Russian Emergency
Situations Ministry (EMERCOM) and patrol boats of the Sakhalin Coast Guard
department of Russia's FSB. Data on the background radiation are coming
from the posts every two hours, the radiation hazard is not forecasted,
there is no threat to the population, the press service of the EMERCOM
main department for the Sakhalin region reported.
