Pakistani girl faces expulsion from UK
London, May 09, 2011 (PPI): A former Merseyside student Azbaa Dar is facing expulsion to Pakistan within days. The 25-year-old, who escaped a swoop which saw her entire family forcibly removed, lost an appeal which would have allowed her to stay in UK. The Bootle Times reported that in messages sent from the notorious Yarl’s Wood detention centre the former Bootle student said: “I am devastated. “I don’t know what will happen to me now, but I fear the worst.” Bootle MP Joe Benton demanded a Home Office delay pending an interim appeal to the European Court of human rights. He said: “I am appalled by the lack of compassion shown to this bright and talented young woman.” Azbaa was visiting friends when an immigration squad swooped on their home after her dad Arif Dar, lost a four-year asylum battle in 2006. Her parents and four younger sisters were sent to Pakistan, where mistreatment with them was a basis of Azbaa’s bid to stay after she handed herself to the authorities after four years on the run. But an immigration tribunal, after deliberations in private, ruled that there were no grounds for her appeal and that she should be removed “within days.”
That has now sparked frantic attempts to delay her departure pending an agreement by the European court to begin an investigation. Benton said: “I am lodging that application which I can do both as an MP and as a ember of the Council of Europe. “Azbaa has suffered incarceration for more than nine months in Yarl’s Wood. “I am appalled and shocked by the latest ruling. The judges involved seem ready to send her back to what is, let’s be blunt, an uncivilized part of the world.”
