Fifty Thai provinces declared drought emergency areas

BANGKOK, May 9 (TNA) - 465 districts across 50 provinces across upper Thailand have been declared disaster emergency areas, with over 10 million people from a total of 3,103,202 households being affected by drought, said Director-General Wiboon Sanguanpong of Prevention and Mitigation Department.

According to the report, the drought has hit 17 Northern provinces including Kampangpetch, Chiang Rai, Lamphun, Phayao and Uttaradit, and 20 other Northeastern provinces such as Udon Thani, Loei, Nong Khai, Bungkan and Ubon Ratchathani. The drought-hit areas also extend to five central provinces and eight Eastern provinces such as Prachuabkirikhan, Petchburi, Saraburi, Chachoengsao, Trad.

Those affected by the drought can seek urgent assistance by contacting a Hotline on 1784 around the clock. (TNA)
