Talks with Cambodia must go on, says Thai Deputy PM

BANGKOK, May 9 (TNA) - According to Deputy Prime Minister, in charge of security affairs, Suthep Thaugsuban, repeated peace talks between Thailand and Cambodia should resume, while the government has to make every effort to bring Cambodia back to the negotiating table.

Following the unresolved border spat between two countries, Mr Suthep believes this is the only way to bring common peace to both sides without negatively affecting the people.

The deputy prime minister also denied that a direct phone call had been made to Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, and added he would rather not interfere with the work of those in charge of restoring peace.

He also said that the locations of the recent clash remain questionable as they took place at Prasat Ta Kwai and Prasat Ta Muan Thom, which are rather far from the dispute areas around Preah Vihear temple. Mr Suthep then concluded by saying that observation is needed in order to search for the truth. (TNA)
